BCG vs. Bain offers in Doha Qatar

Hi guys,

I'm lucky I landed C jobs at BCG and Bain in Doha as en experienced hire. Please, I need your opinion on the below…

1. BCG is T1 in the region while Bain doesn'  seem so. Do you confirm? What about the trend?

2. Interviews/negotiations went great with Bain vs BCG more acrimonious. Does my experience reflect structural cultural differences (pressure, up or out, cutthroat)?

3. What about transfers to the US or EU? Which firm permit it easier.

4. Type of cases

Your personal opinion: would you prioritize BCG T1 status over Bain more "friendly culture"?

Confirmed. Trend is for their positions to remain the same.

2. Interviews/negotiations went great with Bain vs BCG more acrimonious. Does my experience reflect structural cultural differences (pressure, up or out, cutthroat)?

Interviews do reflect culture. However, they should not be your only data point. Networking is critical, as is reading/research.

3. What about transfers to the US or EU? Which firm permit it easier.

Impossible to say. Both allow it, but it's going to be hard from Doha. In any case, you're going to have to wait multiple years for this.

4. Type of cases

You need to network to figure this out. Talk to the office to better understand what work they have going on at the moment.

Your personal opinion: would you prioritize BCG T1 status over Bain more "friendly culture"?

I would pick BCG, but that's just me. If I'm going to work 70+ hr weeks and be exhausted/stressed, it may as well be for the brand/name.

#1 rated McKinsey Coach

Hi there,

You can't go wrong with either, that's a certainty.

If I were to pick, I'd go for BCG. A few reasons:

  • Bigger
  • More international
  • More prestigious
  • Easier to transfer across offices and regions
  • Better pay
  • Better alumni network

Best,

Cristian

Go where you felt you would fit in best. Whether BCG is 1 or Bain is 1 will not help you succeed if you do not fit in well and therefore find it harder to do a good job. Both are amazing firms from a reputation perspective and you won't go wrong with either one from a longer term perspective.
