What makes a great interview? After more than 150 McKinsey interviews, I can assure you: there is no single answer.
Every candidate brings something different. Let’s find out what you bring – what you are particularly good at, which experiences are truly worth talking about, and what is uniquely yours – and make sure all of that comes through when it matters.
Having spent five years at McKinsey, most recently as an Engagement Manager and interviewer, I have a very clear sense of what interviewers are looking for – and of what ultimately makes the difference. I can tell you what catches my attention, where I want to hear more, what leaves me unconvinced and where there is potential that has not quite come through yet.
Whatever we work on – your PEI/FIT, cases or communication – you can expect me to be candid about what works and what doesn’t, precise about where we can improve, and equally attentive to what is already there and worth bringing out.
And perhaps that is what makes a great interview after all: being thoroughly prepared, while still unmistakably yourself – just at your very best.
