I pretty much sticked to the “standard” preparation as followed:
First of all get familiar with the basics of case solving There are plenty of good books (I personally liked “Case in Point” very much)
Then practice, practice, practice. I recommend to practice with case partners (preplounge offers the opportunity to connect with others)
You'll get more and more comfortable with practicing. Some people are fine with solving 5 cases, others with 50. Hard to give a certain number here. Hence, when to start practicing is very individual.
I recommend to start as early as possible to develop a feeling. Depending on whether you feel comfortable or not I would intensify practicing or just solve cases on regular basis to stay in training.
