When do McKinsey send out Zoom invites?

I have my first round interview with McKinsey in a week. When would I know the time of day for the interview?

I have asked the recruiter to make it late evening, if possible, as I need to coordinate with my current job. However, the time has not been confirmed yet, making it difficult to come up with a lid excuse for blocking 3-4 hours in my calendar.

Also, how late can interviews normally be?

Hello,

From my experience, the date and time is always blocked in advance, however the actual meeting link and the interviewer's details are circulated 24-48 hours before the meeting.

Its strange that they haven't confirmed the time yet - I am confident that they should confirm it at the earliest (presumably Monday now).

With regards to how late can interviews be - this is typically office/partner dependent. General rule of thumb is during ‘usual’ business hours i.e. 9-6. However, for some other companies I have also had interviews as late as 8pm at the office's local time (I was in an earlier time zone).

All the best!

Hi there,

Typically, details are only shared 24-48hours before the interview and the interview takes place during normal working hours.

It can be different for different locations.

For one of DACH offices. I received the names of interviewers together with Zoom link a good 10 days in advance.

All of my interviews were scheduled to AM-early PM. But I know both candidates who had their interviews at 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Hi there,

Ideally you should find out soon.

If I were you I would email on Monday asking if they have an update - explain that you need to block off time for work in order to do the interview and that advance notice would be very helpful.

Hi there,

Q: I have my first round interview with McKinsey in a week. When would I know the time of day for the interview? Also, how late can interviews normally be?

Usually at least a few days in advance. If you have asked for a specific time slot they will do their best to accommodate or otherwise find another suitable date.

If possible I would call HR to have this fixed quickly.

Good luck!

Hello!

With the context you provided, I totally see how this is relevant. Since it is very reasonable, I would just email the recruter explaning the same concern, they will provide some clarity.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

They'll be in working hours - so I wouldn't expect to be interviewed after 5pm. I'd recommend reaching out to the recruiting team though and explaining your situation - they may be able to get you a more specific slot.

Good luck!

Hey there,

This really depends on the office.

Sometimes two weeks in advance, sometimes literally a day in advance (just had that case last week with one of my coachees).

Since virtual interviewing took over the slots are much more subject to change on short notice as well (had this case two weeks ago with one of my coachees where they canceled one day in advance).

I would try to take the day off if possible and not do the interviews after a day of work!

The challenge from a recruiter perspective is that they have to ensure that a partner or EM etc. can make the call. It is not easy to coordinate their timelines as it can change until the last day (this is very common in client work)

So it could range from a few day to the day of. If you need to you can always say you have a personal commitment to your current work.
