What to say in final stage of McKinsey?

Hello everyone! I recently passed the R2, so as the final stage i have a meeting with HR Manager, lasts around 45 mins. It is not a case or PEI simply a conversation without any structure, just to make sure you fit in. Do you have any idea about what should I say or what I shouldn't say? Thank you!!

1st session 50% off | Ex‑McKinsey EM | 8+ years experience | 100+ Interviewer Sessions | 50+ Candidates Coached

Hi there,

Firstly, huge congrats on passing R2! Huge accomplishment!

Honestly, I have interviewed 100+ candidates in my 8 years with McKinsey, and I have never heard of a final stage meeting with HR, other than to just be presented with the offer itself, and give you an opportunity to ask questions.

I would be quite surprised if this is an actual "recruiting stage", because if there truly was a question of whether you were a "fit" for the firm, that type of interview would never be conducted by HR at McKinsey. Only Consulting-Track employees (e.g., Partners) are allowed to make "fit determination".

Is there anything more you can share here that could perhaps clarify this situation further?

Sincerely,
Thor

That's rather unusual that you have a HR discussion after R2.

Typically you have this discussion before you have the formal interview rounds.

It might be worth asking what is the scope of this discussion? Is it still part of the evaluation or what is its purpose? Feel free then to repost the question so I can provide a more tailored answer.

Best,
Cristian

hey there :)

In the final HR conversation, focus on motivation, fit, and culture. Be ready to explain why McKinsey, why consulting, and why that office, and share a few concrete examples of teamwork, leadership, or impact. Keep it positive, professional, and concise. Avoid complaining about past employers or salary discussions unless they ask. Treat it as a friendly conversation where you show enthusiasm and clarity about your career goals.

best, Alessa :)

Hi there,

Having another interview with HR after R2 is actually quite uncommon. I'm also not sure what structure this would have.
