What to do about a referral link from Mckinsey?

I got a referral link to apply for from McKinsey. I applied through said link, and then received an email a few weeks saying the application had been closed since I applied before the application window opened. However, my referral link applies before June 1st when the window opens. What do I do? I have reached out to their application help email address, but have not gotten any responses.

Hi,

I think your problem is actually the Help Email address isn't actually being monitored.

You need to find the real email address of the HR/Recruiting team from the office you applied for.

There are a couple of methods:

  • Phonecall (First recommendation): Call the actual office - you will get the front desk, but since you already looked up the HR/Recruiting person on Linkedin(do this), you can ask for them directly. I would remain polite and clear.
  • Linkedin: Find the HR/Recruiting people, and send them a message (sign up for premium and cancel before the 30 days). If they don't respond, I'd send messages to any consultants form the office you applied to, tell them your situation - most would be sympathetic.

Good luck and happt to chat.

Hi there,

Q: My referral link applies before June 1st when the window opens. What do I do?

In this case I would recommend calling HR to explain the situation, they should be able to help.

Good luck!

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • I would advise you to follow up again with the McKinsey recruiting contact after a few business days if you haven’t heard back. Keep it short, polite, and include your referral details and application status.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey pre-interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best

Hi there!

This sounds frustrating.

You did everything fine. I would wait a bit more to hear back from the email you sent. If you don't, then try to find a different contact address for the recruiter, or try to reach them via LinkedIn.

It sounds like a technical problem that should be cleared out.

I imagine it must be frustrating. Try to put that energy now into other applications as well.

Best,
Cristian

Sounds like a technical problem. As other coaches suggested, it’s probably worth trying to get hold of the local HR/recruiting team for the office you’re applying to.
