Hi there,

Q: What kind of online assessments are currently used by McKinsey, BCG, and Bain for their recruitment processes in Italy

McKinsey is using the Solve game globally, thus in Italy as well. BCG and Bain have changed the test in some countries recently, thus I would recommend checking with HR.

At global level, the most common tests for BCG is the HireQuotient online case (chatbot) while for Bain is SOVA or TestGorilla. HR should be able to clarify which is the test that you will have.

You can find some material for McKinsey Solve and the BCG online case chatbot below (full disclosure, I am the author):

Good luck!

Adding to what Alessa said - there are some great resources you can use to prep incl. those developed by Francesco (another coach here)

Hi there,

As of 2025, here’s an overview of the typical online assessments used by McKinsey, BCG, and Bain in Italy (Milan/Rome offices):

McKinsey

  • Solve Game (formerly Problem-Solving Game or PSG): A gamified test focused on problem solving, logic, and pattern recognition (no business knowledge required).
  • In some cases, McKinsey may supplement this with a short case-based multiple-choice test or even a structured reasoning assessment, depending on the role or school.

BCG

  • BCG Online Case (Casey) or Pymetrics: Candidates may take a business case simulation (similar to an interactive case study) or Pymetrics-style games focused on cognitive and emotional traits.
  • Occasionally, BCG may also use Quantitative Reasoning Tests for pre-screening.

Bain

  • SOVA Assessment (used in several European offices): Combines numerical, verbal, logical reasoning, and situational judgment questions.
  • In some cases, a Bain online case test (Excel-style) may be used for more experienced candidates.

Note that these assessments evolve, and different tracks (internship vs full-time, undergrad vs MBA) may have different setups. Always follow up with HR for the most current format after you apply.

Happy to help you prep – feel free to reach out.

Best,
Evelina

Hey there 😊

In 2025, McKinsey in Italy uses the Solve digital assessment with games to test problem-solving. BCG uses the Casey chatbot case with a short video response. Bain typically uses the Sova assessment with reasoning tasks and a video interview.

Let me know if you want tips!

Hi there,

I see Alessa already clarified the tests below.

Do inquire, however, always with the recruiter. They tend to change the process once in a while, and it can also differ based on position / office / firm.

Best,
Cristian
