What is the reasoning behind Germany's car density number?

Do we have any reasoning on why Germany's car density is 500cars/inhabitant?

Hi there,

This is European vs. American way of indicating magnitudes :) Decimnal mark in Europe, comma in the US.

It's not 500 cars per inhabitant, but rather 500 cars per one thousand inhabitants (1.000 in Europe, 1,000 in the US).

So...1 car every 2 people!
