TAAP Assessment

Hello everyone,

I recently applied for a specialist role (Building, Engineering, Construction practice) at McKinsey and just completed the solve game (waiting for results). The next step is for me to do the TAAP assessment with an interviewer.

What should I expect of this assessment? I know it is going to be case-based, but I would appreciate any insights on intensity of this stage as compared to the first and second round interviews. Any tips on preparation would also be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

So this is a technical evaluation that is part of the interview process for certain specialist roles. Here, you'll have a case or problem related to your area of expertise, and you'll be expected to demonstrate your technical skills, thought process, and problem-solving abilities.

Compared to a “classic” case interview, this is likely to be more intense and focused on evaluating your technical skills and expertise. To prepare, read relevant case studies and examples in your area of expertise, practice your problem-solving skills, and familiarize yourself with the company's approach and methodologies.

You may also want to consider preparing for specific questions related to your area of expertise, such as how you approach problem-solving, how you collaborate with others, and how you would prioritize tasks.

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • To my knowledge, McKinsey's TAAP assessment is very similar to the first- or second-round interviews, with the only difference that the case study will be specific to the industry/function for which you applied, and that you will be asked technical questions as well.
  • To prepare for the TAAP assessment, I would advise you to continue practicing case studies with peers and to stay up to date on the industry/function for which you applied.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare your upcoming McKinsey interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

The TAAP assessment is the technical part of the assessment process. You can expect a case from the industry / function in which you are applying. To have better visibility on what to expect, reach out to the recruiter and ask for a high-level understanding of the interview format. They should be able to provide you with that.

Best,

Cristian
