Roland Berger first round case interview - Spain

I have a first-round interview with Roland Berger in Spain.
What are the cases like (format, difficulty, typical topics)? Any tips from recent candidates?

Thank you!

Congratulations! Very exciting.

Depending on the level that you're interviewing for, RB is known for specializing much earlier than MBBs - for instance it is likely you're interviewing for a particular practice (e.g., FS, Digital, Sustainability etc.) I would be sure to expect case topics in line with that discipline. For example, if you're interviewing for the digital team, you will have a focus on apps, digital transformation or strategic elements of unique software.

In terms of difficulty again, will depend on the tenure that you are interviewing for. But expect the same type of format and difficulty level as other firms (MBB and other).

Buena Suerte!

Hi there,

I used to work for Roland Berger and knew a few people from the Spanish office.

It is just like any other MBB case interview format. They have a diversified base of clients. Difficulty / expectation on performance is the same. Some of the most capable consultants I've found were working for Roland Berger.

So you have to be ready for a broad range of problems. It won't be wise to try to narrow it down to a few types of problems only.

Congrats!

There isn't a specific 'Roland Berger' format. Typically they lean more towards candidate led cases, but in recent years the distinction between candidate led and interviewer led has gotten increasingly blurry anyway.

So make use of the case library on the website for practice. Sharing a few of my cases as well in case you're looking for some place to start:

Best,

hey there!

RB first-round cases in Spain are usually interviewer-led, 20–30 minutes, and cover strategy, market entry, or profitability. They’re slightly easier than MBB but still test structure, math, and logic. Practice structuring your answers clearly, do quick calculations under time pressure, and explain your thinking out loud. Also, read up on Spanish market examples, they like candidates who show context awareness.

best, Alessa :)

Just like ANY firm, the moment you start trying to predict what will happen you're on the path to rejection.

Don't play the prediction/memorization game.

Play the learning HOW to THINK like a consultant game. Be ready for anything. 50% of cases nowadays are unconventional!
