Hey there,

In terms of referrals for McKinsey I'd optimize in the following way:

First, go for seniority. A partner-level referral should almost certainly help you with an invite for Solve and/or an interview. No 100% guarantee since your resume should meet certain standards still.

Second, go for the region. You want to make sure to get a referral from a person who works in the respective office and is close with HR.

Third, go for variety in referrals. The more often your name pops up with HR the better of course, although usually, one targeted referral is enough.

Fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Florian

Hi!

It might be possible but not very beneficial.

The “best” referral is the one written by the person who knows you better and with the highest seniority within the firm.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Anto

Yes you can be referred more than once. It is only helpful if the first referral didn't get you an interview. The reality is you want to be referred by a partner as that in most instances guarantees at least an interview with McKinsey.

Hi there,

Technically you can but you really shouldn't. You just need 1 and you should only pick one!

Pick the one that is the highest level and closest to your office/country choice.

Good luck with the application!

Hi there,

When I applied I could be officially referred by one person only. In some countries, the person referring you gets a bonus if you are hired, so they have an incentive to refer good candidates.

However you can be referred “informally” by others. They could drop your name to HR and this may increase the likelihood they call you. You should be transparent with the consultants you talk to on the fact someone already officially referred you though.

Best,

Francesco

Typically you only need 1 solid referral to make it through. A referral is only to get your foot in the door. It does not give you a leg-up in the interviews - you are on your own at that stage.

Having said that, multiple referrals are also ok - but you need to be careful to not step on toes.

Hello!

Yes, indeed. And if you are applying to different offices, is for sure something I would recommend.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,
