Hi, I would not ask for it explicitly but simply talking about how serious you are about her firm and that you are applying right now for it

Ideally at the end of the call you would say something along the lines of “I'll definitely be applying in the coming weeks. Do you have any tips/advice for me?”
This is your “hint”.
Your 2nd attempt can be a few days or a week before you apply. Send them an email, say "thanks again for the instrumental call x weeks/months ago, I'm now applying, if you have any tips/advice do let me know"
Please don't forget to send them a thank you email within 24 hours of this call by the way!

That is a bit of a stronger hint; no harm done. :-)
