Referral BCG

Happy New Year everyone :)

I have applied at BCG 15 days ago for the generalist position. However, I had one person who is ready to refer me now but the thing is I have already applied. My application has not been reviewed yet due to the holidays.

1 - Should I withdraw my application and apply again via a referral (via link so that the person who is ready to refer me gets the bonus)?

If I just email the recruiter and tell him about this then the person will not get the bonus I believe which I do not want to happen.

Need your guidance experts :)

Hi there,

If the person refers you after you have applied, he/she won’t indeed get the bonus if you are hired.

The best thing is if you mention this to the person referring you and ask if it is fine to refer you with the current setting or if he/she would recommend doing something else. Most likely he/she will be fine referring you anyway. Consultants who provide referrals are normally interested in helping you and don’t do this primarily for the bonus.

You may also call HR and ask if you can submit the application again indicating the referral because you made a mistake, as suggested by Udayan, however given this happened 15 days ago I am not sure they could make a change.

Best,

Francesco

Hi,

I am not sure why your primary concern is the bonus the referring person gets. If that is all you are worried about then yes unfortunately it is unlikely that they will get it now. You can always email HR and say there was a misunderstanding in how you thought the application process worked with a referral and usually they are able to change it at their end. They will then as you to re-apply using the referral link if that is an option.

Hi there,

First of all, happy new year to you too!

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Generally speaking, I would advise you to reach out to the recruiter and ask him/ her to connect your application with the referral made. While it will most probably not significantly increase your chances during the interviewing process, it is still worthwhile to mention.
  • Moreover, I would advise you not to revoke the application - especially not for the sole reason of the referee missing out on the bonus - since it would look pretty odd and you might even risk not being able to re-apply right away.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare your upcoming BCG interviews, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

What is done is done. You have applied, and I don't see why you should retrieve your application. It is not in your interest.

You want to flag to HR (and your contact) that you have that referal. And the question issue of the referal money is something for BCG to deal with - that's their internal policy.

Moreover, people aren't giving referals just for the money. And they get the money for finding candidates that are high quality and convince them to apply, particularly those outside the usual talent pools. The primary reason is this, not the recommendation of people who are already applying.

Hello there,

at BCG you still have to submit your application through the official ways, even if it is a referral. I am not sure if there is any field for the name of someone who referred you in the application, but I would suggest your friend reach to HR giving your name as his referral. In the end, the CV submission is only one step of the process, but the referral bonus is paid for bringing in new candidates who may not think of applying. I wouldn't recommend you to withdraw your application.

Wishing you all the best with your application!

Hi there,

If you applied 15 days ago it's probably too late to withdraw the application. Try not to get “cute” here just for their referral bonus!

Rather, reach out to them and HR to make sure the recruiter is aware of the referral. Don't worry about the bonus, just make sure your application is flagged as having their referral!

Good luck!

Hello!

The person won´t get the bonuis in any case, so the best thing is to contact HR asap and be upfront with the situation. They will indicate what is best to do

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara
