Received both 1st Round interviews and rejection email

Hi everyone! I'm currently applying to MBB. I received an email from McKinsey yesterday saying that I have passed the Solve and to wait for their contact to schedule 1st round. However, today I've received a rejection email. Don't really know what to expect. Already reached out to HR, but nothing yet. If anyone has passed through the same and could give me some insights it would be great.

Sorry to hear that and it is indeed very strange. The only explanation that comes to my mind is that someone or the system made a mistake in sending out one of the emails. HR is your best bet at this point as no one else will really know what is happening.

Thanks for the answers! I was stressing about the situation and used prep lounge to vent the situation. I've got my 1st round scheduled!

Hi there,

Q: I received an email from McKinsey yesterday saying that I have passed the Solve and to wait for their contact to schedule 1st round. However, today I've received a rejection email.

It seems one of the two emails was sent by mistake. I would call HR to try to understand what the exact next steps are, they should be able to clarify.

Good luck!

Francesco

No insight here… someone messed up, and you have to clarify with HR what is going on.

That's confusing and frustrating at the same time.

Wait for the answer from the recruiter. Most likely, they made some mistake in communication - for instance, they realised that they can't hire anymore, so they had to go back on their decision to invite you to the first round.

The next useful step is for you to continue applying to other firms.

Sorry to hear this happened to you.

Best,
Cristian
