Received a Referral for the Wrong Program

I recently received a referral for McKinsey, but I received an email notification for the full-time position instead of the internship. I'm currently reaching out to see if there is anything I can do before I have to ask the person who referred me to go through the process of fixing the referral. Is there anything else that I can do besides reaching out to the referral department?

Thank you in advance.

UPDATE: I heard back from Talent Attraction, and they initially told me the person would have to refer me again to the Business Analyst Intern program, as references are not transferable. After another contact, they offered to attach my referral to the correct program when I submit my application.

Hi there,

You have two solutions to fix your referral

1°) Easiest one is to ask your referral to amend the referral in McKinsey's referral portal

2°) Reach out to the HR and recruitment people you have been in contact with (if any) and update your application status. If you don't have any contact yet, I suggest you inform the recruitment team of the situation during your first conversation

I hope this helps

Hello,

Congratulations on getting a referral! Reach out to both the person who referred you and to HR - you'll likely need the input of both to correct this.

Hi there,

I would instead reach out directly to HR and clarify this with them.

Ideally don't bother the person who gave the referral. They've already done enough :)

This is more of a technical issues and it shouldn't be problematic for them to adjust it.

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

I'd reach out to both HR and the person who referred you - you'll get faster results this way!

Hi there,

Q: Is there anything else that I can do besides reaching out to the referral department?

I would recommend contacting HR, they should be able to update the application and fix the issue.

Good luck!

Francesco
