Reapply for generalist track

Hello everyone,

I had passed the CV screening (PEPI practice) and was invited to take the PSG but unfortunately got rejected after that and was not invited for the interviews.

Can I apply for the generalist track now or do I have to wait for a year?

Am I banned to apply for any positions or does the rejection mean only for the particular practice in which you get the rejection?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the rejection.

In case you are rejected, you have two main options if you want to apply again to McKinsey:

  1. Wait until the end of the ban (usually 12 to 24 months)
  2. Find someone that can refer you for the new generalist track, mention explicitly the previous rejection, and see if they can help, ideally having them interact first with HR. There are no guarantees this will work though. In this second option you will normally have to:
    • Show relevant improvements in your CV that justify the earlier application
    • Wait a minimum amount of time anyway (so that you can show the improvements)

Hope this helps,

Francesco

Hey there,

You are blacklisted at this point. The ban is usually global and takes

  • 12 months for internships
  • 24 months for full-time roles

You can accelerate it / shorten it by networking with EM-level and higher.

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

You will need to wait another year (i.e. it applies to all positions). That said, it doesn't hurt to reach out to HR, just don't expect anything.

Sorry to hear, but keep pushing - learn from this and come back stronger!

The rejection is extended to the other areas. You can of course try to reach to HR or to a different office, but honestly given that the issue was the PSG I am afraid that it is unlikely that you will be successful in this attempt.

You should target the other firms.

Hey there, sorry it didn't work out! However, there may be a workaround.

If you applied in location x and failed the PST you're technically banned globally. However, if you anyways apply in location y and they really want you, they can get permission to interview you despite the ban.

Note that I am talking about different two offices in two completely different regions/markets and not Munich instead of Berlin…

Best of luck!
