PhD/ MD

Hello! I plan to apply for MBB programs intended for PhD/ MD students (Bain Advantage, bridge to BCG & McKinsey insight). In case I get rejected, would I need to wait 12-24 months to apply for full time positions or would I be apply to apply right away. Thank you!

Hi there,

If you get rejected, you're going to have to wait about a year.

These timelines are not fixed by the way. They are only a guideline in the sense that they expect you to prove that you've had new experiences which have improved your value as a candidate. It's not like getting your driver's license where you can take the test on and on :)

So my suggestion would be to apply once you're 70-80% there with the preparation. This way you won't have to rush with the preparation if you pass the screening.

Also make sure that you have great application documents. This is what coaches can also help with and it has an amazing ROI (especially in terms of increasing the probability of you passing the screening).

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

Regardless as to what you're “allowed” to do, you should not apply right away to a FT position.

Remember what Einstein said: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”

So, if you apply and get rejected, please make sure you do the following (and, honestly, you should do this beforehand anyway!):

  1. Get your resume professionally reviewed - try to have a 10/10
  2. Network extensively
  3. Get more consulting-relevant experience

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • This really depends on the company's specific recruiting policy. In general, you have to wait the ban period before reapplying which is usually around 12-18 months. I would advise you to check the company's website and/or reach out to the recruiting team for more information on their specific policy.
  • Additionally, in case you get rejected, I would highly advise you not to re-apply right away, take on the feedback from the recruiting process and use that to improve your application for the future.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hello,

Technically you don't need to wait to apply for the full time position as these programs are not full time roles, but rather short immersive programs. However accepted participants do get interviews/special considerations for full time roles.

That being said, a couple of things for you to consider

  • Not being accepted means you likely weren't competitive enough vs other applicants
  • Does this mean you won't be competitive for FT roles - hard to say, but the above already lets you know you are not in the top band of potentials

So, better to do what other coaches have recommended and work on networking, your application and core interviewing skills.

All the best!

Hi there,

These talent programs are usually not linked to job applications so if you don't get in, you are not banned to apply for a job.

In fact, getting into a talent or mentorship program at MBB is often harder than getting an interview invitation (supply-demand).

Cheers,

Florian
