Oliver Wyman MENA Assessment

Hi all!

I applied for a Consultant position at Oliver Wyman MENA and recently got invited to complete their assessment.

I can’t seem to find any relevant information regarding the assessment online as all sources mention different formats (some stated GMAT related questions, other graph interpretations and essays)…?

Anyone that recently completed the assessment could maybe share their experience and let me know what’s the best place to study for the test?

Thank you so much!

Hi there,

All of these online tests are very similar

Format? Slightly different. Content and what's required from you ability-wise? Essentially the same.

The best way is to really find online tests / questions and practice. Regardless as to whether is a new or old test, the principles are mostly the same:

  • Time management (need to think quick)
  • Business knowledge/context (incl key formulas)
  • Critical thinking (answers that are very similar to each other...clues "hidden" in the text)
  • Ability to interpret data/charts

Think of it as a merge of a case and the GMAT/GRE.

You need to be clear on some key case-related and account formulas (margin, growth, breakeven, etc) as well as be good at critically understanding the question (including nuance to questions) and parsing through complicated text with a fair amount of distraction.

You'll also need to be good at chart/graph reading.

The (old) McKinsey PST, BCG Online Test, Bain SOVA test, etc. are all quite similar so leverage resources across all of them.

Hi there,

Although questions are sometimes circulated from one candidate to the other, you would usually get away with a good score if you practice some of the tests available online.

I would recommend not dwelling too much on 1 question and not overthinking as the test is long but the passing score isn't high

I'd recommend looking through the old McKinsey problem solving tests - I can't post links in the answer but if you google McKinsey PST you'll find them. Basically it's what you say - a mixture of maths, chart reading and problem solving.

Don't worry if you can't answer all of the questions - the test is designed to see how you operate under time pressure and how you make reasonable assumptions / rounding decisions to get to an answer quickly.

Good luck!

Look online to get a feel for standardized online assessments that other (consulting) companies use. So you see the different types of questions and formats and know what to expect and the kind of thinking that is required. Then you can practice that based on what's available online.

You are probably well served if you can handle math, figurative problems, verbal questions and graph interpretations in any case
