Mistake in CV (year of internship), check with HR?

I made a mistake in my CV (the year of an internship in the CV is2018 although it was in 2017) and submitted it to McKinsey and Bain. The application was once in the online tool and once sent directly to the recruiter.

This was stupid of course, but my question was whether I should contact HR and give them an update? Or should I just hope that it will not be discovered or have a negative effect on my application?

Thanks for your advice!

Hi there,

If dates overlap with another work experience as you mentioned in the comments, I would call HR, explaining the situation and ask if you can send them an updated CV. If dates overlap they will very likely notice there is something wrong.

Best,

Francesco

If you have overlaps of your internships or previous experience, then better call to HR and explain the situation. If not, then don't worry.

Do you have any further questions?

It really overlaps, as I now have two times 05/2018 - 07/2018. I think they will know that it is a mistake because it doesn't make sense otherwise. So better reach out to them (and if so, call or text)?

I would recommend call them, it is usually faster and easier than to wait for their response via mail.

Depends on whether you have an overlapping internship/experience or not that would look strange. If not, I would just leave it as I don't see how it would have a negative effect on your application.

Reach back out to HR only if the internship matters i.e the company you worked for and work you did really stand outs. And also if the dates dont line up i.e. there is glaring overlap with something else on your CV. If not just leave it be and very likely they will not fret much.

I can understand how bad you must be feeling. Its an honest mistake, so don't beat yourself up too much. As a learning, obviously double/triple check next time, but also get a friend/mum/sibling to read your CV and cover letter and pick out any mistakes.

Hello!

I don´t think it´s a huge thing, but does not harm to contact HR and let them know about it.

Cheers,

Clara

Hi there,

If you think they won't see it, don't call. If you think they will, do.

It's a hard one! I would, personally, be one to not call/email as I'd be worried about bringing my mistake to their attention. Ultimately, it's a 50/50 choice here I think.

Hi,

Don't worry about this. Most probably they'll not pay attention. If you have concerns - feel free to e-mail HR and submit another one
