Mckinsey summer internship - never received any reply?

Hi all,

On July 2021, I applied to Mckinsey's summer business analyst position. But I haven't heard anything from them ever since - no imbellus test, no rejection email, no nothing. I did apply on July 2019, but it's already been 2 years, so it couldn't be due to hiring freeze. Any idea what happened to my application? Will I be able to submit another app soon?

Thank you for your insights!

MBB do not send rejection or acceptance e-mails to very applications.

So, in getting in contact with McKinsey HR again you will likely get nothing.

Hi there,

If not invited, you should at least receive a rejection email. I would definitely follow up directly with HR (call them) to ask for feedback on your application.

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

sorry to hear about your bad experience.

In general, in such HR will typically respond, at least in most countries - MBB firms want to candidates “leave with a smile”, whatever the outcome.

Maybe the application was simply overlooked / got stuck in the system etc - one can only speculate. Normally, should be fine to submit another application by now. Worthwhile checking with HR team first - definitely no harm in doing so.

Wish you good luck!

Hi there,

Did you interview in 2019? If not, there shouldn't have been a hiring freeze.

No idea what happened but you should have heard back, either way. Would try again with another email account and/or reach out to an HR contact if you have one.

Hope this helps a bit! Best of luck!

Hi there,

This sounds essentially like a rejection (email or not).

Yes, you should be able to re-apply but try to network this time! Not only will you have someone that can keep you updated, but this will drastically increase your odds of success.

Good luck!

You should be able to reapply soon given that it has been 2 years. Before you do I highly encourage you to think about how you can do so differently this time. If you did not get invited to an interview last time it is very likely you do not fit the standard profile they are after. The best way to overcome this is to get a partner or someone highly senior to recommend you. Outside of that the chances to be invited to interview are not great.

You realize Mckinsey does not invite for interview to everyone who applies. So if you  expect to be invited just because you applied you are in for a very big shock.

I do understand McKinsey doesn’t invite everyone for interview, and I wasn’t expecting them to just hand out interviews either. I was a bit confused about the fact that I heard nothing, not even a rejection email, which I believe the majority of the people get. When I applied two years ago, I did receive a rejection email. If you have insights on McKinsey ghosting applicants being a standard practice, I’d appreciate you sharing.

Welcome to the real world. McKinsey is more competitive than Harvard and Stanford. So unless You have outstanding achievements, which is having better achievements than 98% of the applicants. You won’t hear back from them.
