McKinsey Specialist Offer - Associate

Hey everyone,

I got the offer! I applied for a specialist role in McKinsey and got today the good news.
HR has not yet called me
- What should I expect salary wise in the Nordics?
- What can be negotiated? (I know not much)
- What else should I ask/know?

Thanks for advice

Hi there,

Congratulations on the offer!

In terms of the exact package, you should be able to find some data points on Glassdoor. You can find an example below for consulting salaries in Singapore:

▶ Top Consulting Firms Salaries in Singapore

The base salary is normally non-negotiable in strategy consulting. However, you may be able to negotiate:

  • The signing bonus
  • The relocation bonus
  • The seniority you join

The easier way to negotiate is to have an “opportunity cost” due to another offer, either from a competitor or your current employer. There may also be differences in what you could negotiate due to the country you are in. Also, do note that not all countries offer the bonuses above.

If you want to learn more about negotiation, I would recommend “Never split the difference” by Chris Voss, which includes some great tips.

Best,

Francesco

Hi there,

Congratulations! Well done!

- What should I expect salary wise in the Nordics?

Around 95-110k
- What can be negotiated? (I know not much)

Generally bonus
- What else should I ask/know?

It's worth investing some time (and even coaching) on learning how to negotiate! With proper negotiation techniques you can get $5k, $10k, $15k, or more…kind of a no brainer for $200-$400 of coaching!
