McKinsey PEI in First Round

Hi everyone,

I am preparing for my first-round interview with McKinsey. Can anyone share which PEI aspect is commonly asked during this round?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

This largely depends on the office and country so it is difficult to make a clear statement here:

  • In most countries, you are not informed about the interviewer's PEI question choices
  • In Germany, currently, the initial PEI story is about Personal Impact (last year it was Inclusive Leadership)
  • If you have not received the information from HR about what story to prepare, prepare all 4 dimensions with 2 stories each (one main story and one backup story)

If you want to know more about how to do that, check out the detailed article I wrote about the PEI: https://www.preplounge.com/en/mckinsey-pei

Cheers,

Florian

hey!

congrats on the interview :)

normally, the first round is about the Personal Impact story. Here, I would suggest to prepare:

- 2 Stories (~5-8min) & 2 respective story pitches (~20sec.)

- The story mainly is about a time when you have worked with a challenging individual, convinced this individual and finally developed a sustainable way of working together

- double check with your local HR if this will be definitively the story asked for in the interview!

Good luck,
