McKinsey ME vs London Applications

Hi everyone,

I applied to McKinsey ME a few months ago but my application was rejected.

If I secure a referral for the London office now and apply, would the new application be automatically rejected?

Thank you in advance.

Hi there,

Q: If I secure a referral for the London office now and apply, would the new application be automatically rejected?

If you apply during the ban period, it is possible to be rejected due to the previous application.

In your case, I would recommend to:

  • Wait at least 6 months before a new application
  • Mention to the person referring you that you have applied before and align with him/her on the next steps. Possibly he/she may have an “informal” chat with HR and verify the options without the need for a formal application

Good luck!

You have to wait 6 months before you apply, otherwise it will be rejected again and you risk waiting one recommendation.

Hi there,

You are likely to get rejected flat-out as the ban is global.

That said, it doesn't hurt to try and get networking now. Please, when networking, be open and upfront about your initial application - don't wait until last minute for them to find out you've been hiding things from them.

Networking doesn't hurt as the best case scenario is they let you apply early while the worst case is you'll be setup nicely to apply once the ban is lifted!

Make sure to get additional consulting experience (part-time projects, etc.) and optimize your resume in the meantime!

Hey there,

McKinsey's ban is usually globally and 12-24 months long (internship vs. full-time), which means that an application at this stage would likely lead to instant rejection.

I'd reach out to the London HR and ask them directly. They are generally super helpful.

Cheers,

Florian

Hello!

None can say this for sure, however, there is a high risk that this happens, given that you are still in the ban period.

However, this could be not be the case with a very well connected or persuasive referral.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara
