Going through experience hire interview process for McKinsey for capital excellence team, associate position. I am just a little surprised that HR invited me for an interview 4 hours after I applied for the job. I am just wondering is it normal to be this fast or the candidate pool is narrow for this specific position. The job requirement called for engineering degree with at least 5 years of experience in mining, oil and gas or chemical Industry.
McKinsey interview

That might just be a new record - well done!
This may have just been a coincidence and I can think of a few reasons how this could have happened. However, none of those have anything to do with your specific application e.g. the quality, how it ranks against others, etc. It's just how your timing coincided with internal processes.
That being said, massive congratulations on being invited for the interviews :) The Associate position at McKinsey is a fantastic role and I'd be happy to discuss more, if you're interested.

Hi there,
Congratulations on the invitation.
Such a quick reply is not common. You have probably applied by chance right before they started to review the applications.
In case you have other questions please feel free to reach out.
Best,
Francesco

Hey there,
This usually happens with a strong referral OR if they want to fill the position quickly.
If you want to prepare for the interviews, check out the 2 guides I wrote, specifically for McKinsey:

All the best!

Hi there,
It's certainly not normal, especially when I've seen people wait months plenty of times before!
That said, no need to question it - they must have just been reviewing applications as you applied (or they are using an automated software).

haha..this is good! Why worry. You got the interview. Doesn't matter whether in 4 hours or 4 weeks. Dont read too much into it. Our mind these days has become conditioned to over analyse everything, every single detail.
Now, get preparing. All the best.

No, this is not normal, and is not a coincidence. It means that they need urgently to fill up the vacancy (and yes, it can also meen that the candidate pool is narrow - given the description it is likely to be the case).
Good luck for the interviews!
