McKinsey in Scandinavia: Is a Solve invitation a good sign?

Hi!

I recently applied to two roles at McKinsey in Oslo, and got an interview to complete Solve.
I was wondering if anyone had insider insights on how common getting an invite for Solve is — specifically in Norway, if applicable!

Asking because I recently moved back from the USA, and applied 1001 times to MBB and, as predicted, never got further than a rejection e-mail, without an invite to Solve at all — to be fair, I was living in the capital of Ivy League fever, so competition was absolutely phenomenal to a non-Ivy like myself.

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from McKinsey!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • Contrary to what other coaches have said, this is not necessarily a good sign. McKinsey typically reviews your application files and your McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment results together. Whether there is an automated pre-screening process is pure speculation.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Short-answer is yes, it is a good sign. Your resume and Solve will be taken in context to extend an interview invite.

Knockout Stages:

CV screening > Solve assessment > Round 1 interviews > Round 2 interviews

Hello there,

It means your CV was approved, your score in Solve will be evaluated together with the CV to define if you'll move to the next phase (round 1 interview).

Good luck!

Best,

Mari

Hi there,

You stand a much better chance of getting invited if you are applying within your country of origin.

There's no specific % of Solve invites and it depends a lot on the market. Safe to say that once you get invited, if you perform well, and your CV and CL are strong, you stand a strong chance of being invited to the first round.

Best,
Cristian

Hi,

Yes, it's a good sign.

If you pass the SOLVE game, you will be invited for the interviews.

Let me know if you have further questions.
