McKinsey Implemntation role- legal info email after final round, 1 week silence: how to interpret?

  • Experienced-hire, Senior Implementation Facilitator (India).

  • Completed two rounds (finals) last week.

  • Next day, received a recruiting email asking for legal first/last name and full mailing address, plus links on code of conduct/independence.

  • It’s now been 1 week; one polite follow-up to recruiting but no response.

    Qs:

  1. For SIF/Implementation, does this legal-info request typically precede an offer, or is it standard at multiple stages?

  2. What’s a realistic decision timeline you’ve seen post-finals for Implementation roles in India?

  3. After one week of silence, is a second nudge appropriate, or better to wait? Any suggested wording?

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the progress in the application process with McKinsey thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your questions:

  • First of all, I would strongly advise you not to overthink the situation. There are certainly some positive signs, but don't "count your chickens before they are hatched."
  • Moreover, contrary to what other coaches have said, while you may certainly follow up with the recruiter and inquire about the status of your application, this will neither help your candidacy nor expedite the process. Instead, I would strongly advise you to focus on applying to other consulting firms to maximize your chances of success.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hey there :)

That legal info request is usually a positive sign, McKinsey tends to ask for those details only when they’re preparing an offer or at least keeping you in the “to be offered” pool. It’s not a step they send out broadly before finals. For Implementation in India, timelines can still vary; even after finals and an internal green light, HR often needs 1–2 weeks to process approvals. A week of silence isn’t unusual.

I’d suggest waiting a few more days before nudging again. If you do, keep it very short and professional, e.g. “Just wanted to kindly check in if there are any updates or next steps you’d recommend I prepare for.” That shows interest without pressure.

Overall, the legal-info mail is a strong indicator things are moving in the right direction, the delay is most likely just internal processing.

best,
Alessa :)

Hello,

Don’t overthink it (I know it is hard) and feel free to reach out to HR asking for a response or estimated date.

1 week is in the lower range of time ranges for this type of diligence.

Best,

Mari

Sometimes they take a few weeks to come back with an answer... they have a day job :) it's perfectly normal that sometimes it takes longer.
