McKinsey Imbellus- Canada - Does passing the tasks mean you have passed the PSG Round of the process?

Hi there,

I recently did the PSG test for McKinsey, and I felt okish about the way I went about my solutions but in the end I passed all the tasks. Does this mean that I passed this stage of the process, and should prepare for interviews, or is it still variable? I am applying off-cycle for an intership if that helps answer anything.

Hey there,

Unfortunately, from the outside, it is very difficult to grasp whether or not you passed the Imbellus. There are candidates who passed that thought they had failed while there are others that did not pass and thought the test was easy and they aced it.

Due to the nature of the tasks and the specific evaluation methods (product score and process score), you will only find out once you receive the email to the interviews or the rejection.

Nonetheless, you should start or continue with your case interview and PEI preparation already now since you do not want to waste any time to improve your consulting interview skill set.

If they reject you based on the Imbellus, you can stop. Still, you would have learned some habits and tools that are valuable for your career (top-down communication, problem structuring, etc.).

Fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

It depends on what you mean by “passed all the tasks”.

If you mean you created the food chain, it could be that the chain was not sustainable. Also, if you mean you finished the plant defense game, it may be you did not manage to resist enough turns.

In any case, you should get a reply within 2 weeks on the results.

If you haven’t done any preparation yet, it would definitely make sense to start it as it takes quite some time to be ready.

Good luck!

Francesco

By pass I meant that my food chain was sustainable and all my defences lasted past the 15 rounds! That’s why I was confused if it implied that I passed the overall test by passing both games. Thanks for your insights!

Hi there, I see. This seems promising as it corresponds to the target requirements to reach in the games. On the other hand, given part of the evaluation is also based on your performance during the game (they also evaluate where you click and the evolution of the strategy), you will still need to wait their email for a definite answer. Good luck!

Hi there,

Not necessarily/automatically, but it does bode well.

Now, whether your odds are 5% or 100% yes you 100% need to start preparing now! You should have been preparing the past 2 months.

Please please don't wait for them to get back to you. Assume you'll get invited and get started ASAP.

Hello!

I don´t fully understand whether you are in the situation of thinking that you have done it well, or actually having the confirmation from them.

Once you have it, yes, it´s interview time, but they will explain you exactly for your tenure what that means and what the next steps are.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Also in Canada, just took the PSG last week. Did you end up hearing back?
