Which would you choose as a junior consultant? BCG pays more.
McKinsey Dubai vs. BCG Dubai
Choosing between McKinsey and BCG in Dubai comes down to whether you prioritize immediate compensation and career flexibility, or global mobility and high-variance performance bonuses.
If you want the highest starting pay, a stronger local office culture, and flexibility, BCG might be your choice.
If you want maximum global mobility, the prestige of the largest alumni network, and the chance to chase high-performer bonuses, McKinsey might be your choice.
As this is a highly personal decision, I would recommend to think about which process and culture felt more comfortable to you. You will spend a lot of time with them.
I wouldn't take the decision based on pay. The difference is unlikely to be significant anyway.
Try instead to speak with a few people from each office to get a sense of the office vibe and the type of work that they do. Then make an informed decision based on that.
In case you got both offers, congrats to you!!
Best,
Cristian
With nothing else to go on, I'd choose on the team and the work, and let pay break a tie. At junior level you're learning how to solve problems fast, and a good manager and interesting projects are worth more than a small pay gap.
Before treating BCG's higher pay as a clear win, compare the total package in writing. Housing, flights, medical cover and relocation support can move the gap in either direction. Then compare the offices themselves: the sectors and project types each runs in Dubai, how much travel there is, and which team you'd join.
Speak to a couple of consultants at each office. If the work and team look similar, taking the higher paying offer is sensible. If one office has the work you want, take that one.
