McKinsey application

Hi everyone,

Hope all is well

Situation:

  • Gave my game exam on Sept 9th
  • Emailed the recruiter for an update on Sept  20th - No reply
  • Called the recruiter on Sept 27th, didn't pick up the phone so left a voice mail
  • Called today, but again no reply

Can you tell me how should I proceed now or what should I do?

Thanks

1-month wait for Imbellus outcome is not unseen. Pls hold on. Negative or positive - you will definitely hear back.

Try to keep pinging via email+phone on a weekly basis. Hopefully you should hear back soon. Chasing the HR/recruiter is not going to impact your results.

Hi there,

I agree with Agrim and would not push further at the moment. I would call again in 1 -2 weeks from now in case you have not heard back by then.

The time to get a reply after the Imbellus varies. Most of the time is within 2 weeks but can be longer. The longest I heard was 2 months and the result was positive.

Best,

Francesco

Hello,

I know it can be nerve-wracking to wait for a while without an answer, but the time they take to get back to you after the Imbellus really varies. I agree with Agrim's advice - wait 1-2 weeks, and follow up with them again (you could try emailing if it seems like the recruiter isn't responding to your calls). It can take a while to process all the applications, so there's no reason to assume any specific outcome at this point. Best of luck!

Hey there,

Good answers here already. Unfortunately, it's a ‘’wait-and-see'' situation.

However, instead of worrying about the outcome, focus now on prepping for the next stages of the process, i.e. working on your case skills, drafting, and rehearsing the PEI stories. If you move to the next round, you want to be prepared and bring your A-game.

Fingers crossed for a positive outcome!

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

First of all (and despite your current situation), congratulations on being invited by McKinsey!

This is indeed an interesting, very specific question, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Generally spreaking, there might be several reasons why the recruiting process is pausing/ stopping for you at this moment (e.g. internal process difficulties, technical issues with Imbellus, unclear results). To further assess the most suitable next steps for you, I would need to know whether you're applying in a country where the McKinsey Imbellus results are a separate or an integrated recruiting format (i.e. will the McKinsey Imbellus results be assessed together with a first-round case study interview or not).
  • Based on your activity so far - even if it will be really hard for you - I would advise you to wait for at least 1.5-2 weeks now. Obviously, the McKinsey process did not work properly in your specific case yet you still do not want to come off “pushy” towards the recruiters.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on to best prepare the next steps in your communication and the (hopefully soon) upcoming McKinsey case study interviews, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

Hi there,

You need to recognize when things are in your control versus when they are not.

This is not in your control. There is nothing you can do about this situation. Sorry!

So, focus on what you can control. Fous on case/interview prep. Get ready for when they do call/email, and get ready for your other interviews/applications.

Reach out in 2 weeks if they still haven't responded, but, you need to fundamentally relinquish this desire to have control/impact on things. They'll get to you when they get to you!

They are not answering because they don't have an answer for you yet (and they don't answer because a lot of people do what you did, and it would take them a lot of time to get back to everyone on something that will take care of itself soon).

You did the test less than one month ago, so it is still a reasonable time frame for them to answer. Wait a couple more weeks before reaching out again.

As the other coaches said, focus on the case preparation, which is something you need to start before knowing the test results (and before taking the Imbellus, actually).

Good luck!!!
