McK Final round

Hi,

I finished my round 2 with McK yesterday. While 2 out of 3 interviews went well, the third one did not so much. Perhaps avg or below avg performance. The partner said I should get a call end of the day with a decision, but the call never came.

I know it's pure speculation at this point in time, however, given the performance drop in 1 interview, should I consider I am out? I do feel for all the remaining interviews (2 in round 1) and 2 in round 2 went really well.

You are only out after you receive a call telling you are out. The firms don't delay the bad news - either good or bad, they will get done with it as fast as they can.

Regarding your performance, only you can really assess at this point. It depends on your spikes (how good is “went well”?; how bad is “avg performance”?). It's hard to say.

Fingers crossed and hope you receive good news very soon.

Hello!

You are not out until they call you and tell you that you are.

I can imagine how incredibly frustrating it must be to wait like that, but don´t loose hope. Perhaps, if you had strong performance in the other 2, you are asked to do another round, it´s quite usual

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

No call means no call. It does not indicate rejection.

You will most definitely get a call - regardless of the outcome.

Please don't speculate and pull your hair in the process.

This is just a bandwidth issue - perhaps the person responsible for doing the call didn't have time - and the call might come in the following days.

Good luck!

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on passing both McKinsey interview rounds!

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Generally speaking, unless you have received feedback, the outcome is completely open. It is absolutely natural trying to figure out beforehand, but there is no meaning in it.
  • Moreover, from my own experience, the ones of my coachees and my personal network, there seems to be no correlation between the time required to receive feedback and the outcome. Most probably, your (very) senior interviewers just had some ad-hoc topics with their clients and thus could not make the alignment call to make the final decision.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to prepare your (most probable) upcoming career entry with McKinsey, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

Hi there,

You should not consider yourself out - you truly never know until they call (it has just been a day!).

I know it's easier said than done, but you just need to be patient and let it play out.

Fingers crossed for you!
