MBB chances after final round (6th interview)

Hi,

I had 2 partner interviews in second round. After one week HR said that I need to have another round with a senior partner who leads overall region (so a very senior partner). I had the round 2 days ago. It was a general conversation where he asked me about my experience and some fit questions. Nothing technical/case related. At the end he also answered my question in details and said “let’s hope to continue our conversation” (don’t get the last part meaning).

I thought if you dont get a call same day it’s A rejection. Is that true?
Why was interview with senior partner scheduled as it was not planned earlier?

update: one more final round interview scheduled with a partner. HR mentioned overal feedback is positive but wanted to test some more areas.

Please have some patience. It's not always the case that you get a call the same day. They have to discuss your candidacy before making a decision this can sometimes take a week. There's nothing in your note to indicate that the interview went terribly so at this time it's all about waiting to see what the feedback was

No, this is not true at all. It can take more days, particularly if it's not a “regular” hire, which is your case. Namely because they may be recruiting for a single position and need to go through the several candidates before making a decision (this is different from regular recruiting where they are hiring a whole “batch” of people, and can give out offers until getting close to the target batch size)

Because they probably want to be sure they are hiring the right person for the right role at the right rank. While this is more or less standard for university hires or people with consulting experience, for industry hires it requires an additional ammount of fine-tunning, hence the need for additional interviews.

It means he enjoyed the conversation and is still considering you for the role. Of course he may need to talk to other candidates before making a decision.

Honestly, this is extremely promising!

Generally, when they have this “extra” round, it's because they just want to be sure of their decision (to hire).

I don't like getting people's hopes up (or down) with conjecture, but this is normally a very good sign.

Please be patient! Give it at least a week before you followup!
