MBB background check GPA difference

I got an offer from Bain recently. When I checked my GPA I found my GPA in the application form neither my cumulative GPA(3.25) nor my major GPA(3.34), but a combination of these two(3.35). It was a mistake and the 3.35 GPA didn't exist at all. And I have already submitted my transcript. In my resume since my GPA is not very high I didn't mention it.

It bothers me a lot and when I received the offer it says it is a conditional offer contingent on the background check. I'm not sure whether my GPA difference would be checked.

Thanks.

Hi there,

congratulations!

Should not be an issue here - background checks are not an exact maths and GPA calculation methodology is often more nuanced and school-specific.

Would not worry too much about it.

All the best!

Regards, Andi

Hi there,

Don't worry. These things have no impact.

If it comes up, you can clarify it easily but I am 99% sure that it will not even be mentioned.

Enjoy your new role at Bain!

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the offer!

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • From my perspective, there is absolutely no need to worry since you did not maliciously falsify anything.
  • If anything, they will ask you to justify your actions, which you have already done very comprehensively here.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Congratulations on the offer!

It looks like the deviation of the GPA is pretty minor. You also submitted your original transcripts. I highly doubt that they would reject a candidate who impressed them during multiple interview rounds such that they extended an offer because of something that could be construed as a “typo”.

Best of luck

Unlikely to be an issue, nobody really cares about gpa especially after an offer.

Hello,

Congrats on receiving the offer!

If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about it, since you have submitted your original transcripts too.

The background check is more to verify if you have actually worked/studied at places that you have claimed to work/study.

Best,

Rushabh

1. It looks like they didn't look at your GPA before giving you an offer

2. Your mistake is fairly minor (0.01) and without any materiality.

So you should be perfectly fine.

By the way, the letter you got is the same everyone gets.

Thanks for your kind reply :)

I'm just wondering whether they would think that GPA should be 3.25 instead of 3.34 since the former covers all the courses while the latter only cover degree specific courses. So that the difference would be 0.1 , would that still be a minor difference?

Thanks again!

You have a good explanation - I don't expect it to be an issue.

Hi there,

You might be overthinking this.

They almost never withdraw offers on something like this unless it's obvious to them that you declared something falsely. As long as you're not in that situation, you have nothing to worry about.

Best,

Cristian

Hi,

The last time I had a background check done on me it was more on a reference check (as an experienced hire) but more importantly it was a from a legal/civil/criminal POV.

It is highly unlikely your GPA will be nitpicked to that level.
