Likelihood of MBB offer being rescinded due to visa issues?

Hi PL Community!

Could really benefit from an expert POV on this.

I received a Bain offer in Doha Office but my current employer in Qatar is making it very difficult to provide the non-objection documents required by the government to be able to transfer companies within Qatar (even with leaving the country and coming back under a new visa)

From my side if it becomes impossible to work in Qatar for visa issues, I would like to be relocated to another office. I just want to understand the likelihood of my offer being fully rescinded if Bain finds staffing & relocation difficulties and ultimately fails to offer me relocation options.

Jack

Hi there,

This is clearly not your fault and out of your hands so I wouldn't worry too much.

They decided that they want you and they will typically find a space for you in another office, in the Middle East or elsewhere. They would rather go through all this effort, which is ultimately very routine for MBB, than interviewing a bunch of people again to find someone like you.

If you haven't told them yet, reach out to HR with your concerns and highlight your flexibility and willingness to do what it takes to work for them, in Doha or elsewhere (if that's in fact how you feel).

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Hi Jack,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • It's understandable that you have concerns about the possibility of your offer being rescinded if you are unable to obtain the necessary documents from your current employer to be able to transfer companies within Qatar.
  • However, it's worth noting that consulting firms like Bain are staffed based on the specific needs of their clients and the office's project pipeline. If it is impossible to start with the Doha office due to your visa issues, they may consider relocating you to another office.
  • It's also worth discussing your concerns and the situation with the recruiting team at Bain, as they may be able to provide guidance and clarification on the process and what options may be available to you. They may also be able to help you navigate the process of obtaining the necessary documents from your current employer.
  • It's important to keep in mind that consulting firms rely on their employees' ability to work on projects and therefore, they will do their best to place you in a location where you can work. However, if it becomes impossible to work in Qatar for visa issues and the firm is unable to find a suitable relocation option for you, it's possible that your offer may be rescinded.
  • In any case, it's always best to be transparent and open with the recruiting team regarding your situation, they will be better equipped to help you find a solution.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi Jack,

Don't be too concerned about it.

If they extended you an offer it's because they really see a lot of value in your and they're going to try and accommodate whatever is necessary to retain you (transfer included).

Best,

Cristian

In this situation they will usually find another office for you. It won't necessarily be the office of your preference, but they will provide you with an option.

Depends on how flexible you are. They typically work with you to help with a relocation if a visa does not work out.

Hi there,

I think it's highly unlikely they rescind the offer entirely. Rather, they would look to relocate to a new office.

Just make sure to carry yourself in the right way here and make sure you're responsive and do what's needed to keep the process moving along.

Good luck to you!
