Lifestyle in the USA

I am from McKinsey Middle East. I want to switch to one of the US offices. I know that it highly depends on projects, but how is the lifestyle in the US offices on average? How avoidable is traveling? I will be moving with my family so the travel leg is quite important to find out more about.

Lifestyle will be better than ME but you will still be working late nights and travelling quite a bit within the country

Only way to avoid travel at McK is to specialise in an area example financial services where there is a high concentration of local clients

Dear A,

Consulting means - working and traveling a lot, no matter which country you are in.

And do you asking about travelling in terms of comfort, infrustructure or safety with COVID situation?

Best,
André

This is the US! Workaholic nation!

Sorry to say, but you need to expect the same amount of work. That being said, culture might be "better" in that there may be more of a work hard play hard mindset. Regardless, avoiding travel will be very hard (think about how large the US is and how you have 0 issues with borders, languages, etc. when crossing states).

Overall life style wise US would tend to be better than Middle East, but you should still expect long hours from time to time.

Travel is hard to avoid if you are in certain industry practices that the clients are usually spread out across the country or in more remote areas. That's part of the job. Unless you choose to focus on industries that are more in the metropolitan areas.
