Is it a big deal to get selected for the McKinsey Virtual International Reception? What should I do to prepare or stand out?

Hi there!

It's a nice opportunity because it gives you a chance to understand the firm better and to meet some of the consultants.

But it does not mean you'll get an offer or any preferential treatment during the recruitment process.

Also, please don't try to impress. It typically comes across as very obvious and awkward in these settings.

Try to have a couple of conversations where you're genuinely interested in learning more about the other person. If these go well, you could reach out to them over LinkedIn for another chat, which could then materialise into a referral.

Here's what you need to do:

Best,
Cristian

It's positive, but not something “major”.

To prepare - do your research on the role and consulting type of work.

To stand out… honestly just try to participate / have a normal conversation.
