Is BCG Casey result a dealbreaker?

Hi, I recently applied to BCG as an experience consultant and I got a referral from a partner at the firm. I got scheduled for my first round interview and BCG casey simulation on the same day. My questions are:
1) Does having them on the same day mean anything?
2) If I crush my live interview but do ok on my BCG casey simulation does that ruin my candidacy?

Hi, adding on previous answers, Casey acts as a threshold rather than a hard gate. A strong interview performance can help deaverage an average Casey result, and in that sense case interviews carry more weight. However, the reverse is not true: if your interview feedback is negative, a strong Casey score will not save you. So to answer your questions directly: (I) same-day scheduling is just for practicality, and (II) doing ok on Casey is not a dealbreaker if you crush the interview. Focus your energy there. Hope it helps. Feel free to drop me a message if anything is unclear and good luck!

Hello,

BCG Casey is part of the first-round assessment, so having it scheduled for the same day as your interview is not unusual.

The important point is that you need to pass each component of the round independently. In other words, performing very well in the live interview will not automatically compensate for a weak Casey result, and vice versa.

That said, if your performance is broadly in line with expectations and your interview is strong, you should still be competitive. I would focus on preparing seriously for both components rather than viewing Casey as a secondary hurdle.

If you'd like more personalized suggestions based on your background, office, and interview timeline, feel free to send me a DM.

Best,
Franco

Good spot to be in. A partner referral plus a scheduled first round means BCG already sees you as worth their time. To your questions:

  1. Same day means nothing. It's just scheduling efficiency, not a signal. Don't read into it.
  2. A solid-but-not-perfect Casey won't sink you if you crush the live round. Casey is a screen, not the decision. Its job is to filter out people who clearly can't structure or do the math. Once you're past that bar, the live interview carries far more weight, because a real interviewer is judging you in real time. That's the signal they trust most.

One caveat. "Ok" is fine. But a weak Casey that exposes a real gap, like shaky math or no structure, can raise a flag. So don't sleepwalk through it. Structure your thinking, narrate cleanly, get the numbers right.

Put your energy into the live round. That's where this gets won.

hey!

Casey is scored, but the live interview carries much more weight. If you do very well in the interview and your Casey score is decent, you stay in the process. Only truly weak Casey results hurt candidates. Doing “ok” does not ruin anything. Same‑day scheduling is just logistics, not a signal.
