Inverto Round 1 - Case Format

Hi Folks!

For some background, I'm going into round 1 at Inverto in a couple of weeks and I was wondering whether anyone could shed some light on the interview format for an Inverto case. I got confirmation that it'll be a procurement case study, however I was wondering whether it fell in line with BCG style cases or whether it was a different format.

Thanks a ton in advance for any help!

Hi Christophe,

Firstly, congrats on making it to the interviews! Great accomplishment! :D

Here is what you need to know:

1. Inverto interviews are indeed structured like other BCG interviews, with a Case and Fit portion

2. Inverto cases are the same in format as other BCG cases, but typically they are focused around procurement / supply chain. Thus, skills beyond great case solving (structuring, math, insights, creativity) that you'll may need to display could be knowledge of: ategory spend analysis, should-cost, supplier consolidation, RFP/negotiation strategy, make-or-buy, savings roadmap etc. But, core mechanics of the case (i.e., format) will be the same.

3. Since the case will definitely be within Procurement, make sure you prep the following:
- Know the savings tree: price vs. volume, specification, process, demand; be ready to quantify savings impact from levers (e.g., 3% price cut on €120m spend = €3.6m).

- Practice should-cost thinking: materials, labor, overhead, logistics; identify negotiation arguments.

- Review supplier segmentation, RFQ / RFP waves, dual-sourcing, contracting terms, and risk/ESG trade-offs.

------

So, just make sure you practice a few procurement cases before your interview - and make sure you do it with a friend (who has consulting, ideally MBB experience), or a coach. If I'm not mistaken, Preplounge even has a few Inverto cases on the platform - check those out.

Hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Thor

Hi Christophe,

Inverto’s round 1 cases are indeed procurement-focused, but the overall structure is quite close to a BCG-style case, since Inverto is a BCG subsidiary. The main difference is that the context and levers are more operational and sourcing-driven rather than strategic.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Format: 45–60 minutes with both fit and case parts. The case typically starts with a short prompt (e.g., “A client wants to reduce procurement costs for packaging materials”) and then moves into structured questions.
  • Focus areas: Spend analysis, supplier consolidation, cost breakdowns, negotiation strategies, and make-or-buy decisions. You may need to identify quick wins vs. long-term initiatives.
  • Quantitative element: Often includes tables with procurement data or cost components — you’ll need to calculate savings or compare suppliers.
  • Style: Conversational, with emphasis on logic, structure, and business judgment rather than creative market sizing or profitability like in BCG core cases.

Preparation tips:

  • Practise breaking down cost structures (price × volume, fixed vs. variable).
  • Review basic sourcing levers (demand management, supplier collaboration, specification optimization).
  • Be ready to summarise your approach clearly — communication style still matters as much as structure.

Happy to help you prep – feel free to reach out.

Best,

Evelina
