i have an interview at ZS associates, on 14th of september, it is campus placement, in india, any tips?

With the interview on 14 September and a campus process, I would stop preparing this like an MBB case interview. From what candidates describe, the ZS format differs in 2 ways that change what is worth practising in 4 days.

A few things I would do this week:

• Practise solving a case alone, on paper, against a 30 minute clock, then explaining it out loud to someone. The format candidates report gives independent solve time before the discussion, so what is being tested is whether a structure you built by yourself survives being defended. That is a different muscle from the interactive cases most preparation material trains.

• Build commercial context in pharmaceuticals and healthcare. Sales force sizing, territory allocation, launch forecasting, patient funnels. I would spend 2 evenings understanding how a drug actually reaches a patient rather than running 10 more generic profitability cases.

• Rehearse the recorded behavioural questions against a timer. Short thinking time and a hard recording limit punish candidates who set the scene first. Open with the action you took, then the reasoning, then a measurable outcome.

• Keep mental maths and data interpretation warm daily. Percentage changes, ratios, reading a table quickly. Speed here is the cheapest score to protect in a compressed process.

Campus drives compress several rounds into 1 or 2 days, so what usually decides the outcome is consistency across all of them rather than a strong case round. Most candidates spend everything on the case and arrive at the fit interview with nothing specific to say about why this firm and why this sector.

First, congrats on the interview!

I've supported a number of candidates with ZS. In general, your prep is no different than other case prep. That is, be ready/flexible/adaptable to any case type/industry.

Now, I'm assuming you've already asked HR about the exact format? If not...just ask! There can be variation by office and campus process.

That said, for ZS you should be prepared for any and all of the following:

A case

Fit + behavioral

Brainstorming

Market Sizing

Deep-dive questions regarding Pharma + Healthcare Industry knowledge

Here's the main thing you're actually going to want to focus on/fix: Being objective driven, applying the 80/20 rule and moving through a case quickly and effectively.

For fit, make sure you're ready with your resume walkthrough, why consulting, why ZS, and 4-6 flexible stories that can be adapted to questions around leadership, teamwork, challenges, impact, and persuasion.

Most importantly, don't go in with deadset expectations - you truly never know, and having hard expectations just leaves you unprepared to react!

Given how close your interview is, generic advice will only take you so far. The advice for how YOU should prepare is different to how someone else should prepare. I recommend getting professional coaching so you can get tailored advice based on your strengths, weaknesses, and current level.

First, ask the recruiter for the exact format. ZS says its process can vary by role and location and may include behavioral, case, subject-matter or online assessments. Your campus process may use only some of these.

With three days left, I would do one focused simulation each day. Practise a case, ten minutes of mental math and data interpretation, and three flexible stories about leadership, teamwork and a setback. Prepare a clear answer for why ZS and why the role.

Spend some time understanding the commercial side of healthcare and pharmaceuticals, but do not try to learn an industry in three days. Focus on how you structure an unfamiliar problem, use data and respond to feedback.

The goal now is not more material. It is clean repetition under interview conditions, followed by one specific improvement after each mock.

For ZS Associates, I’d focus on getting the basics really solid rather than trying to prepare for everything. Be ready with a clear introduction, why ZS, why consulting, and a few strong examples from your experience. For the case, practice structuring, quick mental math, interpreting charts and most importantly, explaining your thinking clearly.

Since it’s campus recruiting, I’d also research ZS’s work and be able to explain why their focus on healthcare, analytics and problem solving interests you specifically. And definitely do a few mock cases before the 14th if you can.
