Back to overview

I have a Round 2 interview at CIL management Consulting at the German offices. Has anyone experience with the process, since they have a business case format, sightly different from the classical consulting case.

Hi,

If by 'business case' you refer to a written case format, yes indeed that is slightly different from the classical consulting case which is 'live' and dynamic throughout the entire time.

In a written format, normally you are either given time before the interview or during the interview to process the information, come up with a short presentation and then discuss the findings with the interviewer(s).

To be honest, I find that many people over-index on the differences in the formats.. fundamentally any consulting firm is going to look for the same traits in candidates.

Arguably the biggest difference to me is in time management and understanding how to structure what you are eventually going to present. Some people worry about communication (i.e. slide writing/presentation) but to me if you are clear in thought you will be clear in presentation, at least in the context of the interview.

If you would like to practice a written case or 2, let me know, happy to connect and discuss further.

All the best!

Kunal,

You might want to ask the recruiter for more details on the process. A business case is what virtually all the interviews are based on.

What you can also do is reach out to recent hires (<1.5y tenure) and ask them about how they prepared for the interviews and what they think made them successful.

Best,
Cristian

Interviews are short, so you have to have this very well prepared and get to the point quickly.

You will two short case study interviews.

  1. One is a market sizing question (including some business acumen and/or brainstorming question around the drivers of the market or the profitability).
  2. Second one will consist of chart / data analysis.

I am quite versed in helping candidates prepare for this type of interview and know many examples of questions they've asked for the market sizing.
