How many employees does a bank have?

Dear PrepLounge community,

How would you estimate the employee number, how would you approach and structure this question?

Hi there,

Very much need to know which bank and where. Completely changes how I approach this.

However, this is a classic bottom-up approach. It's also a classic throughput set of logic (much like the common Starbucks revenue market sizing question).

You need to think through:

1) Different sets of employees (tellers, gaurds, back-office management, etc.)

2) Flow of customers. The key here is # associates/tellers required for the customers.

Hi,

I think you should ask some clarifying questions first:

  • Retail / corporate?
  • Remote or branches?
  • What kind of products it has?

After getting the initial asnwer you can come up with some calculations

Hello!

Key to ask clarifying questions at the beggining, since there are many types of banks -and of offices from each of those-.

I would then do it bottom up with the different types of employess.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Hello there,

I agree with Clara - it's hard to estimate without any clarifying questions since there are many types of banks. A bottom-up approach would work better in this case anyway than a top-down.
