How long the job advertisement at BCG last on the job market?

Hi guys,

I applied for a non-mobility post at BCG in one of the European Offices and I don't have working permit in the hosting country of that BCG office.

The day after I applied, an HR emailed me, asking about my working permit. I explained my situation and I proposed to HR how to get working permit in EU countries that she never heard of it. She told me the information I gave her was very helpful indeed, but she had to check again with her colleagues. In the end of the email, she said “I will consider when we shortlist the candidates when the job advertisement closed”.

FYI, The job advertisement was posted 2 weeks ago, and I submitted my application 2 weeks ago. The status of my application on BCG website is still “under review”.

Any advice?

Thank you

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your uncertain situation with BCG!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • It doesn't really matter how long the job advertisement remains active, as you have already applied. I would therefore highly advise you not to worry about this aspect.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming BCG interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

I think it's very hard if not impossible to say from the outside how long a respective job advertisement is open for.

The recruiter might be best positioned to know. Maybe wait another 1-2 weeks (if you can) and follow up with them in a kind email? I don't think that can hurt.

Hope you hear some good news,

Ariadna

Hi there,

Q: How long the job advertisement at BCG last on the job market?

It depends on the office/need for candidates. Regardless, if you already applied, it doesn’t matter how long they will keep it online.

As a side note, usually it is better to apply where you have a work permit to increase chances. In theory, they might sponsor the application if you don’t have a work permit, but it still puts you at a disadvantage compared to other candidates at the same level due to the additional work required from their side to hire you.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

To be honest, I think this is a delaying tactic.

  • Some job openings are open indefinitely for a year-round rolling recruiting.
  • The current supply of consulting jobs is very low and firms prefer to hire candidates without administrative friction.

My advice would be to also look for offices where you already have a work permit.

Kind regards,

Florian

Unless you are clearly the right person for the job, they will keep the post for a while until they find a suitable candidate. You have a clear disadvantage here.

There is no fixed time window for closing a job posting - in general.

Best to ask that directly to HR if you are concerned.

Regardless, if you are not screened, HR should inform you about that as well. Rejection will not mean radio silence.

One tip here - I would check via Linkedin whether there are people in the office from a similar region as you and who might've gone through a similar process beforehand.

You could then reach out to them for a chat to understand how they did it.

Best,
Cristian
