Hi! As the question says, I applied to McKinsey around two weeks ago for the generalist associate role as an APD candidate. I applied through a referral link, but have yet to hear about anything from McKinsey including the Solve assessment which I have been informed would be next steps. Should I be concerned?
How long does it take to hear back about Solve assessment after submitting McKinsey application?
Hello,
Usually you should hear back within 1–3 weeks after applying so two weeks is still within the normal range, so there’s no need to be concerned yet. Timelines can vary by office, role, and application volume.
If you don’t hear back after ~3–4 weeks,I'd recommend you to follow up with the recruiting dept in charge.
Best,
Franco
Hey,
It's typically 1-2 weeks, but I would not worry (and/or nudge your Recruiter) until at least end of next week. Two reasons:
- Some offices prefer to review all scores in a single batch before sending invites -- you might just be one of the first in you batch
- Geopolitical uncertainty typically slows down MBB hiring processes (e.g., when Covid started, waiting time were often 2-3x). Right now, firms are trying to pick up signals to predict their staff needs based on the geopolitical uncertainty happening in the Middle East. You are definitely not the first one to signal that recruiting processes are taking longer this week!
Good luck for everything :)
Tom
Hi there,
Ultimately, you/we don't know. and, you won't know until you do! Meaning, network with and apply to LOTS of other firms.
The more opportunities you have elsewhere, the less you'll wring your hands over this one!

Two weeks is normal. McKinsey's timeline is slow, and Solve invites go out in batches, not right after you apply.
A referral helps you get noticed but does not speed things up on the admin side.
If you hit three weeks with no news, follow up with the recruiter or whoever referred you. Keep it short, just ask for a status update.
Do not overthink the silence. Keep prepping in the meantime.
hey there :)
for McK it’s quite normal that it takes 2 to even 3+ weeks to receive the Solve invite, especially for APD roles where screening can be a bit slower and more centralized, so this is not a negative signal at all; referrals help but don’t always accelerate timing, so I’d give it another week and only then consider a short, polite follow up, you’re still well within the typical range
best,
Alessa :)
The timeline really varies so I wouldn't read into it.
Most people hear within the month, but it could take longer.
My advice would be to use this time to develop other applications.
Best,
