How do I approach this situation?

Hi,

I am a current Master's student at Northwestern's Pritzker School of Law (not JD or LLM), and I have applied to all the MBB firms. I, fortunately, scored a referral for Bain (manager), who is at a non-target office, and coffee chat for 30 minutes with a Senior Manager at the target office. I did not get a chance to secure a referral from them after the chat. Is it too late to ask for it? They seemed very friendly and helpful during the chat and offered help in other ways like case prep and "flagging my resume to the recruiter." I am not sure what flagging means. Can anyone elaborate on that as well?

“Flagging your resume to the recruiter” means the person is willing to give you a referral. :-))

Reach out again and say that you are now ready to apply and want to take them up on their offer.

Hi there,

any offer from a consultant/manager/partner at the company you intend to apply to to forward your CV to their recruiting team constitutes a referral. It doesn't always have to be a formal process.

So you should definitely take them up on their offer.

Thanks for sharing this. I am from a target school but the program i am enrolled in doesn't have the direct connections or access to jobs as the MBA. Do i still have a chance?

Thanks! I did and was immediately referred to the recruiter who happens to be the MBA recruiter if my target office. The recruiter is on leave which is why I plan to email her next week Monday. How I best maximize this opportunity ? What would be your advice ?
