To begin with, I recommend you reach back to the recruiter to ask them how technical the questions will be and if they can provide examples. Typically they give you a slightly better sense of what to expect once you follow-up with them. 

You might also want to reach out to a couple of people who are in a similar role and have joined recently (<1y of tenure). And use this opportunity to ask them how they prepared for the interviews. They might have specific tips that are useful for you to adopt.

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from BCG!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your questions:

• First of all, and contrary to the purely procedural answers of other coaches, for the case study part I would advise you not to chase a special "BCG X style framework". It is most likely better to treat it as a normal business case study where you also show that you can bring data science and ML into the solution. The interviewers care much more about your structured thinking and how you link tech to real business value than about some fancy ready-made framework.
• Moreover, I would strongly advise you to confirm the precise process immediately and directly with the recruiter, since they are the ones who know for certain, and who can provide more detail.
• Lastly, once you have found out more details about the application process, I'd be more than happy to provide you with further advice.

I have helped some candidates prepare for this role before. 

Couple of important things - the "Forward Deployed" title is key here. This means that you will be expected to engage and interact with clients heavily. 

In terms of technicality - the interviewers will not expect you to know the entire universe, but given you have already been invited, they would believe that you know -enough- about the relevant domains. 

• E.g. If the topic is on forecasting techniques you may not have used a particular technique or model before like GARCH/Holt-Winter or GLM but you should be able to say whether a time-series regression or casual method is more appropriate and within that talk about a specific model you know that you can deploy and why

More importantly, the reason why many candidates fail the forward deployed role is that even though they are strong technically, they are unable to do the following:

1. Think strategically in a way that a client can understand the importance of your technical work. What's the "so-what"? What matters to them?
2. Be structured in your thinking and be able to demonstrate business judgment -> they are assessing if they would be comfortable putting you infront of a client, and nobody wants someone who might say something that may make BCG lose credibility etc
3. Be able to explain complex, technical concepts and methodologies in a way that a non-technical client can understand

Not easy to do the above - but it is possible with the right feedback and guidance.

For BCG X the technical case is usually a practical ML design discussion, not deep theory. They want to see that you can frame a business problem, define the ML task, outline data needs, pick a reasonable baseline, explain metrics and trade‑offs, and think about deployment. The level is applied ML: feature leakage, overfitting, model choice, evaluation, and how you’d move from notebook to production. A typical prompt is something like designing a churn model or fraud model and walking through how you’d build and evaluate it. If you want to practise, you can look for people preparing for ML cases or BCG_X_technical_interview.

The cases for this role are quite different from traditional MBB consulting cases, so I wouldn't rely too heavily on the standard case frameworks.

BCG X technical cases test how well you bridge business value with data science implementation.

Interviewers usually start with an ambiguous business problem, like reducing customer churn or optimizing supply chains. They expect you to establish the client's business goal first, then map out the full ML pipeline. You must explain data requirements, feature engineering, model selection, evaluation metrics, and deployment considerations.

The technical bar is high on trade-offs. You do not need complex math derivations, but you must defend why you chose a specific model or metric over another for that client context.
