For how many weeks usually are offer letters valid from the day of offer? Wanted a few examples in EU

For background, I have a few interviews coming up and got an offer recently. I am trying to negotiate extending the deadline for signing the contract and wanted to know 2 things:

1. Whats the norm usually like?

2. By how many weeks is it considered acceptable to extend it?

Hi there,

Initial offers can give anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks leeway for a decision to be made.

If you're asking for time, it's about a 50/50 chance that they allow the extra time. When they do, you'll get around a week.

Of course, the above is not based on hard data points, just personal experiences and the experiences of my candidates.

i got two offers from MBB - one was 4weeks (until the on campus recruitment deadline) and the other was 6 weeks.

in UK & EU generally they give you anywhere between 5 to 30 days depending on the company.

Its reasonable to ask for 1-2 weeks extension with good justifiable reasons.

Hi there,

  1. For my consulting offers (all in the EU), the range was between 1 and 4 weeks
  2. One more week should be safe, but there are no guarantees they will accept it

Best,
