EYP vs. Other tier 2 strategy firms

Hi all,

I am currently working in EYP and has been approached by OW and AKT headcounters (similar team).

Would you think it would be a good opportunity for a lateral move (i.e. if OW / ATK are better brands or provide better exit opportunity)? My next step is to move into PE (portfolio management). My concern is that moving to a new firm will take more time to build relationships which indicate longer time for promotion.

Thank you all very much.

Hi there,

We need a bit more background here.

How long have you been working at EYP and in what role(s)? What are the OW and AKT offers? If they'll jump you up a level and provide higher pay it is a consideration.

Finally, if you're enjoying EYP, doing well, rising up, networking well, etc. don't try to fix it if it ain't broke!

Hi Ian, thank you very much for your comment. i am currently a M in EYP are looking forward to be promoted as a SM this Sep, and the position in OW / ATK are one year pre-Engagement Manager (as their EM is more big4 SM equivalent). The pay did rise about c.15k with slightly better bonus.

The lateral move is not making sense to me given what you have shared. Unless there is some more background to your situation, you wont be doing yourself any favour by moving laterally even if they pay slightly more $.

Thank you very much Adi. Does this mean that OW / ATK are actually not better brands comparing to EYP? I was thinking big four strategy branches are more like tier 3 in the market.

You are correct in your assessment, but each firm has its unique strenghts. So EYP is particularly strong and depending on the location (e.g. US, UK, ...) perceived as MBB level in PE type of work. Also perceived as very good in education and TMT, for example. At EYP, I supported most of the major transactions in my country, for example.

OW is great in certain industries (not PE). Kearney perceived as strong for organization/procurement/operations. Once again, not PE.

If you want to move to PE, it doesn't make sense to move out of EYP (unless you are not doing strategy or CDD type of work).

At EYP you are more likely to be doing the type of work that matters to PE firms, and it a brand recognized for that type of work within those firms. So moving to OW or Kearney doesn't really make sense in this case.
