Does McKinsey typically request a recommendation at the end of the case?

Hi,

I will be interviewing for an entry-level position at McKinsey at the end of August. I understand that interviewers at many consulting firms typically ask for a recommendation at the end of the case. Does this practice also apply to McKinsey interviews?

Thanks

Hi there,

Rarely.

Nonetheless, it pays off to be prepared and practice strong recommendations:

  1. Top-down recommendation
  2. Supporting arguments from the case, numbered and signposted
  3. Next steps, numbered and signposted

All the best,

Hi there,

Q: Does McKinsey typically request a recommendation at the end of the case?

McKinsey interviewers don’t always ask for a conclusion. On the other hand, I would still recommend being prepared for a conclusion, as you might need it (i) in case they ask and (ii) for the other consulting companies you are interviewing with.

You can find a few tips for that below:

How to Structure a Conclusion

Good luck!
