No. Sometimes they just send the "thank you for applying, we regret to say that everyone was very competitive and you're not getting an offer" type of email.
Does every McKinsey interview reject get the Keep in Touch mail?
Not everyone receives a “keep in touch” mail, it depends on the office, interviewer feedback, and HR’s decision. Some candidates get a standard rejection, others receive a note encouraging them to reapply later. So no, it’s not universal.

Firstly, what are the chances I'll get an interview again? If I do, when might that be?
Hi there,
No, not everyone would receive this.

Hi there,
Realistically, McKinsey in 2025 has been inconsistent with communication. Some candidates get a formal “Keep in Touch” template, others just a rejection email. At the end of the day, whether you get that note or not has no predictive value for reapplication chances.
Additionally, when enrolling in the program, candidates are invited to share their top McKinsey office preference(s). Here, I would like to change my office preference order (in regard to the one I used for my application). Will this have any impact (positive/negative)?
Thanks.
Hello,
As others have mentioned - no.
Whether there is a phrase that asks you to keep in touch or not, it does not change what you have to do
- Strengthen your experience in the next 1-2 years
- Work on your weak areas during your case interview
Remember - rejection is painful, but not the end of the world. Many elite environments (e.g. military, sports etc) see individuals who fail to qualify on first attempt, but later succeed on re-attempt :)
All the best!
No, not everyone, though it also depends on the office.
'Keep in touch' email aside, rather try and get a sense of the feedback that you received from the consultants. If they encouraged you personally to apply, it's certain that they mean it.
Best,
Cristian
