Do you feel the entry level TITLE at BCG and Bain is more attractive than at McK ?

Even though it's generally an analyst entry level position, do you feel that being called an associate at BCG would give you more opportunities than be called an analyst at Mck even though it's the same entry level role. Why can't Mck call its entry level roles "Associate" to match "BCG". Imagine two candidates interviewing for a position at the same firm after entry leve stints at Mck and BCG and the BCG guy puts up the Associate title and the Mck guy "Business Analyst". Wouldn't the firm think the BCG guy did more or is worth more even though they are the same ?

McKinsey Senior EM & BCG Consultant | Interviewer at McK & BCG for 7 years | Coached 400+ candidates secure MBB offers

Are we running out of relevant topics to discuss here? ;)

Seriously - future employers with recruitiers who wrongly interpret / don't understand the MBB seniority levels are hardly suitable employers for ex MBB consultants anyway. :) So this is not an issue for McKinsey or any other global consulting firm.

Cheers, Sidi

The thing is that the people you're discussing a future job with generally understand the type of job you're doing in the first 2 years at any consulting firm. Nobody relevant will be blinded by a flashy title and hire you for a position you're not qualified for.

I have never ever heard of anyone having an issue getting all sorts of amazing jobs after being a BA at McKinsey. Anyone can look at your resume and immediately see you were an entry level consultant at any firm regardless of the title. You are over thinking this

Nope. Recruiters are very well aware of the titles and responsibilities. Plus, they can correlate this based on your CV and dates i.e. its entry level position.

First of all, BA sounds much better than Consultant at Bain, which is insanely generic (could be anything - tech consulting for the local hospital).

Second, any serious firm / recruiter would know how different firms call their respective. They can also look at when you graduated and how many years you worked to extrapolate this information.

Lastly, I know people online argue MBB are roughly equal but McKinsey does have a much bigger wow factor than the other two. When you mention it to people or when it is listed on a resume, people are more impressed as opposed to Bain / BCG.
