Different MBB offers - Can I negotiate?

Hi there,

I received an offer from all MBB firms in Germany for a Consultant/ Associate position. However, the offers differ especially on the bonus side significantly.

Is there any way I would be able to negotiate the bonus? In addition, is the increase/ future development in salary at all firms roughly the same or is there a firm which stands out?

Thanks

Hi there,

Not only can you negotiate but you should negotiate!

You can absolutely negotiate on sign-on bonus (personally, I doubled mine and help most of my candidates get higher offers).

Flag that there is another offer, but re-iterate your interest in their firm. Say you'll sign if they can just get closer to x.

My understandin is that the German consultancies also like to offer cars as part of the sign-on bonus (for tax purposes). Try to work this into the negotiations.

Good luck!

Hello!

Congratulations, that is amazing!

The window for negotiation (particularly the bonus, everything else is quite difficult) depends very very much on your tenure and experience.

Feel free to PM me, I have seen myself a couple of times in these situations and would be happy to share how they resolved.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Yes, you can negotiate sign-in bonus. Just avoid deciding on the company based on that.

Regarding salaries, they tend to be aligned, but you would have to chat with someone who really knows well the german market (i.e., a consultant working for an MBB there) to provide some light on whether there is any meaningful difference between them.
